Hyundai Heavy Achieves a Total of 600,000MWA Production in Transformers

Hyundai Heavy Industries reached the production milestone of 600,000MVA in transformers with the completion of a 390MVA for French EDF.
Hyundai Heavy set this record in 33 years since the production of its first transformer in 1977.
600,000MVA is more than eight times of total power production capacity of Korea. The company reached 500,000MVA in 2008 and added 100,000MVA in one year and three months showing dramatic production growth.
Hyundai Heavy’’s transformer has grown up five times over four years. The company’’s transformer sales in 2009 increased 70% to 1 trillion won from 600 billion won in 2008. Its transformer sales in 2005 was only 210 billion won, but the company has increased its sales as 260 billion won in 2006, 400 billion won in 2007 and 600 billion won in 2008 by expanding production facilities and technology development.
"Hyundai Heavy Industries exports high voltage transformers to 70 countries since entering the American market in the early 1980s. Increasing product reliability through technology innovation and differentiated marketing strategy between regions helped the fast growth," said Mr. Lee Jong-gwang, executive vice president of Hyundai Heavy.
The company takes more than 10% of the global transformer market and is poised to be one of the top three manufacturers in 2010 based on innovation and development of new markets.
